Vivid Dawn's random ramblings

Biological and physical maintenance

My menstrual cramps are so agonizing that I can’t get out of bed (even just to the bathroom or get a drink makes me queasy with pain). So, I’ve been on the Depo-Provera shots for the last 10 or so years.

Besides the fact it’s not supposed to be used that long, I’m so skinny with no real fat for the medicine to go in, the shots make my thigh so cramped I can hardly walk for about 3 days… which sort of defeats the purpose (being able to be up/mobile and functional) of the injections in the first place. Granted, it’s only every 3 months, but enough of an annoyance that I wanted something longer lasting. Doctor suggested Nexplanon.

Yesterday I got the Nexplanon birth control implant. Waited over an hour to have a 5 minute procedure! My arm is more sore and tender today than it was yesterday…I figure it’ll be like that for a few more days until my body finally adjusts and heals from having a rod (4cm in length, 2mm in diameter) of plastic shoved into it.

At noon today I was allowed to take the pressure bandage off. But put it back on (loosely), because every time my shirt sleeve brushed against the site, it felt like somebody was swiping a hot coal on my arm! So I’ll keep the bandage (gauze pad and stretchy-“tape”) over it, just to give it a little padding and protection for another couple of days. Supposed to keep the little strip of cloth tape over the hole (yes, there’s a HOLE in my skin!) for 3-5 days anyway, until it heals closed.

Also yesterday – the “check engine” light came on in my car. Called the place I usually go to for repairs, and they said a diagnostic would cost $43. Uummm…that much, just for somebody to LOOK for a problem? I researched on the internet and it could be anything as simple as a bad spark plug, to a bad catalytic converter – now, I’m not going to pay $40+ just to be told I need a $5 or $10 spark plug!

Took the car into AutoZone and they did the check for free. My gas cap had come loose. Yup, soooo glad I didn’t pay nearly $50 to be told to tighten my gas cap!

Bucket List

Bucket List – Beta (v 0.9)

This will be added to and/or re-arranged. I know I thought of a #3 the other day, but now I can’t remember what it was. Time for bed!

Estimated/goal time to complete

Give Ryan his finished Baby Book (scrap-booking project I started 6 years ago!)
Less than 6 months

Be out of debt.
30 months max / Jan. 1 2015

Own my own “home” (at least a camping trailer for “full time RVing” lifestyle, though a manufactured home on my own lot would be awesome)
after my Dad passes away (until then, I’m living at home)

#5 Graduate College (Utah State University). Even if it’s only an Associate level, but a Bachelors in zoology (local wildlife) would be wonderful.
2-5 years… hopefully before I’m 50, so I can have some time to USE the degree! (if I started right after I got out of debt and did a 4 year program, it’d be about 2019)

A few little extras before I go to bed.

Had a glass of milk to take my Warfarin, which upped my calories to 1530 for the day. Still need 970+ though!

Also, I had a caramel frappe from Burger King today. Those things are wonderfully evil!
Pros: Yummylicious! The “high” from the caffeine made me feel like I had energy to do ANYTHING! Then the low/crash from the caffeine high about 6 hours after drinking is much like taking Ambien…I’m woozy and foggy-headed and barely enough coordination to walk around. (or type…I’ve hit “backspace” quite a lot now!) Hopefully I’ll fall asleep quicker than my usual hour-plus time!
Cons: Expensive…$3 for a medium?? The high from the caffeine (which starts about half an hour after) got me all jittery…my body (mostly hands and legs) were shaky and my heart kept skipping/jumping – not enough to cause any real worry, but certainly annoying!

Okay…I’ma go beddy-bye now. Gotta be up at 7 to leave the house by 8 so I can get to a blood testing appointment, work at the cat shelter to supervise a couple new volunteers and drive a friend who can’t drive to his doctor appointment! And I really should just get decent sleep and a good breakfast, rather than get another frappe, despite it’s energy boosting.

New health plans

Wow…so much for my post a day…or week!

Jobs are going good. Haven’t worked much, but enough to get my savings bulked up a bit. Along with my Godmother’s birthday present money, I now have enough to buy the vinyl flooring! Still gotta get the place cleaned up and ready for the flooring work to be done, though…but I still have 3 months for that – I want to have everything completely finished no later than October 10 (I go on vacation 13th, and would like to come home to a nice “new” place!)

As most dieters, I get all geared up and do good for a few days, then slack off and “Eh, I’ll start next week”…which gets said EVERY week. I do have a phone app that should make it easy..which it does. The app itself is quite nice, but my phone is so small that it’s annoying to have to scroll through so many ‘screens’ to get all the information accessed and recorded. So I bought the same program in PC version. Now I’m going to try just simply writing “sandwich 3pm” on the phone’s notepad, then at the end of the day do the FULL nutrition information on my computer where there’s much more room to see everything (and a true keyboard…I hate little finger-pads).

Today I had 1383 calories of the 2500+ I’m supposed to. Also, my saturated fat intake was in the red zone  😦  Other nutrients like cholesterol and sodium were okay, though.

My sister gave me a little MP3 player for my birthday (phone can play them, but again…I don’t like my phone for much more than being made to talk to people!). With the birthday money my dad gave me, I bought mini speakers. Now I can have music on my night-table and play soft relaxing instrumentals, or some guided imagery and fall asleep faster… or at least that’s the plan!

Also, I’m looking into quitting Depo-Provera injections and instead having a Nexplanon implant. I just need to get the okay from my cardiologist if I can, because the implant increases risk for thrombosis (clots) and one stroke was enough for me! But I’m on daily Warfarin/Coumadin and 2-3 times week Aspirin…so I’m hoping that reduces the risk enough. I’m tired of shots, and while the implant will hurt really bad for 1 day, it lasts 3 years…not 3 months!
